As I read your ruminations on the meaning of Via Chicago, I had my own thought. Maybe Jeff is saying that he found his identity--as a musician, as a husband, as a father--via Chicago. (Thanks to Susie, the music community, the clubs and the other resources that are in Chicago and not Belleville.) Just a random thought, and I’m not sure it holds up to scrutiny, but your words prompted this idea so I thought I’d share.
