John Williams knew as a child he would move to Alaska. And he did. And he lives in a cabin that he built himself. It doesn’t take too long after first meeting him to figure out that he’s just this type of person. When he envisions a way of being, he pursues it thoughtfully and fully and in his own way. If you want to talk about the spirit of punk rock, John Williams is a descendant (no pun intended…listen to the episode and you’ll understand) of the likes of Joe Strummer—not in a musical way, per se, but rather in the way he goes about his life in an independent, yet worldly, concerned, and empathetic way. Music fan, traveler, good guy—I hope you enjoy my chat with the John Williams who did not score the Star Wars soundtrack, but I venture has a lot more to say about the ‘80s music scene than that guy anyway!
And at the midpoint I delved into the challenge thrown down by the podcasters at the Wilco podcast, Shoving Wilco to pick favorites out of a March Madness-style bracket. I recorded this before the “Sweet 16” was selected, but you get the idea. It’s a fun podcast if you’re a fan of all things Wilco. Check it out, friends!
Wilco-centric episode? Well, a bit. But it’s a lot more too! Check it out before throwing on the new Beyonce album!
Thanks for listening!
